The Melody Maker charts for the week ending May 29th 1976 explain a great deal about everything that is wrong with music from the 1970s.
1. Fernando - Abba - Mawkish shite.
2. No Charge - J.J. Barrie - Even more mawkish shite.
3 - 7 Generic crap probably.
8. The Wurzels, now we are talking.
9-11 Motown crud.
12. Devil Woman - Cliff Richard.
It's tough to know where to start with Caroline Coon's New Single's section. Do we start with the unfortunate name? The Terrible photograph or the appalling Prose?
I suppose it could be worse. Move on to page 14 and you get "The Slik File" including an in depth expose of James "Midge" Ure (Guitars, Vocals).
So Midge, surprise me, what musical training have you had? Oh, that would be none then. OK, lets move forward, who are your musical influences? "Paul McCartney". Midge, you are a twat.
The 70s. Not as good as the 80s.
